The Doctor travels to Cardiff in the year 3000 with Donna and three new companions, they see a Weevil with Torchwood branded on it. The Doctor decides to go back to Cardiff 2008 to consult Jack to find out why this is. Gwen, while looking through some CCTV footage finds out that Owen is still alive but how? The Doctor and Jack set out to find Owen to figure out what's going on. Why didn't Owen perish by the huge dose of radiation he got from the building he was in? And will Captain Jack, the Doctor and us finally find out where the Weevils originally come from?

Episode 1 Weevil Been Through Time

Something happens to the TARDIS which brings together the Doctor and his companions and the Torchwood team. While trying to sort our this problem the TARDIS lands in 1950s London where the Chelonians are at it again. The Chelonians want to take over Earth by wiping all of the humans off it but only one person stands in their way and it's the Doctor. Will the TARDIS crew and the Torchwood team fix the TARDIS? And will the Doctor bring a halt to the Chelonians plans for the take over of Earth or will the Chelonians stop him before he can?

Episode 2 Super Hearing Mutant X-ray Turtles

The Doctor still not being able to fix the TARDIS desktop theme, decides to get the outside of the TARDIS off of Earth. This fails because the TARDIS again lands on Earth but this time in 1964 in an unincorporated town in Texas called Doss. The TARDIS crew and Torchwood team find a body of a boy that appears to have been attacked by small rodents in Texas called Groundhogs. This is much worse because their not Groundhogs but Woodchuckians from the planet Woodchuckia who have decided to go on an on sight killing spree. To pour salt into the wound, the others get kidnapped by a group of Woodchuckians so that now only the Doctor and Jack can stop the Woodchuckians. Why have the Woodchuckians decided to go on an on sight killing spree now? And will the others, that have got kidnapped, still be alive at the end of all this?

Episode 3 Woodchuck Feast

The TARDIS lands in Cardiff 2006 after Jack accidentally does something to the console. Being unable to just leave, the Doctor decides to go out and investigate knowing full well that his past self is out there with Jack's past self as well. It isn't the only version of Jack that is in Cardiff 2006, there are two more versions both in the 2006 Torchwood hub. Will the Doctor be able to work out why they can't just leave and head for another time and place? And will Jack be able to dodge his past self's without mucking up his own time line?

After something has come out of the rift, the Doctor along with Jack, Owen, Ethan, Lisa and Paul go out into Cardiff 2006 to investigate. They find that the thing that came out of the rift is standing in the TARDISes favorite stop in front of the water tower. Is the thing that came out of the rift good or bad? And if it is bad will the Doctor along with Jack, Owen, Ethan, Lisa and Paul be able to stop it in it's tracks?

The TARDIS gets pulled back to Earth and Cardiff in 2009 after the Doctor tried to unsuccessfully land it on an alien planet. This is the 3rd time they've been in Cardiff 2009 in under 3 days, surely nothing can go wrong and oh yes it can. Gwen and Paul get separated from everyone else and they are stuck, guess where... well you'd be wrong because they're stuck in the hub of all places. Will the Doctor and the others be able to get back to Gwen and Paul? And will everything Jack and the team try turn out not to work?

Storylines (So far)

Episode 7: Gwen leaves her husband Rhys and heads for the Torchwood hub. Suddenly the phone rings, it's Rhys and Gwen answers it. Rhys wonders where Gwen has been for the past 3 days, Gwen explains that she's only just left him and puts the phone down. Her phone rings again, it's Rhys again and this time he asks where Gwen has been for the past week, she says that she only just put the phone down on him and he says that, that was a week ago. Gwen puts the phone down again and starts running towards the Torchwood hub. Something is stealing time away from Gwen and it's affecting the relationship between her husband. Who or what is doing this to Gwen and why? And will the Doctor, the TARDIS crew and the rest of the Torchwood team put a stop to the meddling of Gwen's time? (Needs a bit of work)
Two Parter, Episode 8 & 9: The TARDIS lands on a planet where the Doctor senses that the Face of Boe is on too. The Doctor knows that the Face of Boe must be able to sense that the Doctor is on the same planet as well. In order to not mess up the Face of Boe's time line, the Doctor stays in the TARDIS while the others visit the planet. Jack runs into the Face of Boe on the planet and thinks he can recognize the face of the Face of Boe. Will Jack find out the name of the big giant face he think he recognizes? And will Jack realize that he is in fact looking at his future self? (Needs a bit of work)
Episode 10: Owen starts to see things ahead of time, which is weird because he has never had deja vu in his life. A life of a Torchwood team member doesn't leave time for doing things twice. The Doctor tries to figure out what is going on in Owen's head or what is making Owen have these premonitions. The Doctor needs another Doctor to help him but seeing as Owen is the subject there is only one other person they know who can fill the slot. Jack calls Martha Jones to come and help the Doctor out to try and work out what's going on with Owen's head. Will the Doctor and Martha be able to stop Owen's deja vuing? Or will Owen start to see so far in his future that he will see his end before it happens? (Needs a bit of work)

The Day That Changed It All

Torchwood/Doctor Who fanfic--this is PRE Children Of Earth...cos Ianto should be alive...

I sat there in the darkness, clinging to the Doctor, my eyes wide with terror though I couldn't see anything. My heart was pounding in my ears while we waited for the metal door to give out and the strange creatures to burst in and kill us. I closed my eyes and thought back on the year that had lead me to this moment, which I was certain would be the final moment of this little Torchwood receptionist...

I'd seen them several times before, they pull up in the black SUV and take over strange crime scenes, but supposedly they don't exist. That is, you can't look them up and get fact one way or the other. You just get sites made by complete nutters who think they are aliens. I knew they weren't. I knew who they were, cos I had seen them before. I saw them when the city was bombed for no reason, and I saw them when my mum was killed by a hideous creature they call a Weevil, but I never thought I would end up working for them. As it turns out they had kept tabs on me since that day with my mum, and when their team was in need of more assistance, they turned to me. I was reluctant and even declined when their leader, Captain Jack Harkness, showed up to my flat, but when the former teaboy, Ianto came calling, I couldn't say no. So I was thrown into the world of Torchwood, and the first few weeks were simply amazing. I couldn't believe that the Hub was so easily hidden, or even that Cardiff had such a huge alien problem, but after a few months, it got a little boring. Ianto would come and sit with me when I looked too terribly bored and even stayed back on missions that Jack and Gwen could handle alone, but the last time that I was left on my own had lead me to have an adventure of my very own with one of Jack's old friends.

"How's your morning been, Am?" The young Welshman smiled at me while emerging from the kitchen with two mugs of coffee, his pinstripe suit perfectly ironed and hair combed just as perfectly.

"Oh you know, I'm swamped as usual," I smiled back, taking the mug with a nod, smelling the infamous drink before setting it down beside me.

"I know, sorry it's just been slow goings lately," he sighed and leaned against my desk then added, "but that isn't a bad thing," with a smirk. Ianto and I had grown pretty close over the past year or so. I suppose you could say we were best friends, he told me everything and I did the same, plus I thought he and Jack were just too adorable together.

"Maybe for those of us in the field that's a good thing, but all I ever do is sit here," I took a drink and glanced back up at my friend, "Is he ever going to put me out there, Yan?"

"Hm," Ianto sat down his mug and ruffled my hair slightly, "I'm sure when he feels you are ready he will let you come on a mission with us," he smiled and picked back up his coffee, "but for now it's best you stay here were you are safest."

"Ianto!" Before I could say another word Jack burst into the room, Gwen not far behind, both already had their coats on and looked somewhat frantic. "We have to go, that blowfish had a cousin, and he isn't too happy right now."

"Jack! We need to go," Gwen looked down at the device she was holding and walked out of the room, giving me a slight nod on the way.

"Sorry," Ianto gave me a quick pat on the shoulder and grabbed the keys to the SUV, "at least you'll have some work to do now," he called just before the hub door closed behind them.

"Yeah...but I'd rather be out there with you," I sighed and began working on the papers for the mission the team had left on, taking a few sips of coffee every so often. After about ten minutes a strange noise caught my attention, it seemed to be mechanical, but not anything I had ever heard before. "Jack?" I called out, but got no response so I shut the file I was working on and headed up the stairs to the dock. "Hello?" I looked around the empty 'tourist shop' and sighed, but something on the dock caught my eye.

There was a box, a blue box just sitting there and I swore it hadn't been there that morning. I went to the door of the shop and opened it slightly for a better view. As I did so, a man stepped out of the box and looked around before walking down the pier toward town. I couldn't see him very well, but he looked tall, and thin. He wore a long tan coat, similar to Jack's I thought, and a brown suit with white Converse shoes, which seemed a bit off to me. A suit with tennis shoes? My train of thought was cut off when a low growl sounded behind me. '****,' I thought while I turned slowly to face what I knew would be an escaped Weevil. My eyes met with the razor toothed beast's for what seemed like hours when I knew it was a few seconds before it lunged at me. With a quite loud scream I burst through the door, and began running down the pier, knowing the creature was following. About half way down, I decided to look back, and just so happened to trip on a can someone had neglected to put in the bin. I smacked into the wood with another short scream, while blood started to trickle down my face. Just my luck, I hit my head to the point of bleeding and the Weevil was getting ready to pounce on me.

"Hey! Over here, look!!" Both the Weevil and my head snapped over to see who had called out, it was the man from the box, holding a piece of meat. "You want the food?" His eyebrows raised slightly while he threw the meat to the creature and ran to my side, "Come on, that won't keep it busy for long," and just as he helped me up, the Weevil roared and lunged at me again. "Run!"

"I figured that, thanks!" I yelled to my savior as we ran towards the blue box.

"Get in!" He screamed, jetting through the flimsy wooden door.

"I don't see how this is going to--" I stopped dead in my tracks as I entered what had looked like a phone box from the outside, but was simply amazing on the inside. I stood there, mouth hanging open while my eyes took in the intricate copper walls and the huge control pannel centered within this seemingly impossible vessel.

"It's not going away," his voice broke my concentration and I was pulled back to reality as he turned to face me and his brown eyes met my own hazel.

"Who and what the hell are you?" I gasped, still unable to fully understand what was going on, blood drying on my face as well as in my dark hair, the last thing I remembered before I hit the grated metal floor was him telling me he was the Doctor.

When I came to I was laying on a remotely soft little cot, a large coat draped over my like a blanket. As my vision focused I saw that I was still inside the strange phone box and jumped out of the makeshift bed, only to stumble and be caught by the man who saved me from sharing my mother's fate.

"You alright?" He asked, our eyes meeting once again, one of his eyebrows raised slightly as he waited fro me to respond.

"....um," was all I could think of to say, my head was killing me and I was having trouble remembering what happened after I fell on the pier. I closed my eyes and thought a moment, unknowingly clinging to the strange man. Slowly, my memory returned to me and my eyes shot open, "My post!" Once again I tried to stand, to run and once again I fell back into his arms.

"You hit your head pretty hard out there...." he gazed at me, worry in his eyes, "and in here..."

"What is here?" I glanced around me, taking in the weirdness that was this 'little' box.

"Oh, I'm sorry," he explained while helping me sit back on the cot, "this is the TARDIS, she's my ship," he smiled, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Ship...?" I looked up at him, utterly confused, though the name seemed familiar, but my head hurt too much to think properly. "Who are you, again?"

"I told you, I'm the Doctor," he replied, scratching his head a little.

"The Doctor..." I said rather flatly.

"Yeah, that's me," he smiled again with a nod.

"Doctor...who?" My mind was still a little foggy so I was trying to make sure I didn't just miss a last name.

"Just The Doctor," he said, rocking on his heels.

"How can your name just be The Doctor, were your parents going for origionality or--" I cut myself off, remembering a certain file from Torchwood, one that Jack held very dear. "You're...the Doctor?"

"You heard of me?" he asked, walking over to the strange controls and spinning a few knobs.

"You could say that..." I laughed a little before getting a horrible feeling of dread, "I am going to be in so much trouble..."

"Well I think you should be happy to be alive,--what was your name?" He asked, peeking up from his work.

"I'm Ambyr," I said, rubbing my aching head, "I need to get back to the Hub before the team gets ba--" I was cut off by what felt like an earthquake. "What did you do!?"

"Sorry, sorry," he yelled, running around the controls, "I didn't mean to hit the button, but did you say the Hub? As in Torchwood?"

"Oh. My. God." I sat there, mouth once again hanging open. He was THE Doctor. Jack's old friend, protector of the universe, a legend in his own and I was sitting in his ship...the TARDIS. "You are the Doctor from my files." I said just as the shaking stopped.

"You don't look old enough to be in Torchwood..." he walked back over to me, brow wrinkled.

"Hey, I'm not a kid, I'm 18 thank you very much," I glared at him, then gasped at my rudeness. "I'm sorry, Doctor...yes I am the youngest member of Torchwood, ever I believe. I really should be getting back, though." I stood and walked toward the door, turning back to look at him one more time, "It was brilliant to meet you."

"Wait!" He yelled, just as I opened the door expecting to see the peir, but what I was greeted by was a dark sky, dirt, and cold air. "I didn't know where it was going," he explained, standing next to me, "I was setting the controls to go somewhere, but I hit go too soon." He looked around and stepped out onto the surface of what I knew was another planet.

"Where am I? What is this?" I stammered while following him out, the door closing behind me.

"Well judging by the view, and darkness, I would say this is Syrixon, not sure what year though," he glanced back at me just in time to see the tears filling my eyes. The Doctor walked back to me and put his hands on my shoulders, "I will get you back home, I promise, the TARDIS needs to cool off for another ten minutes then I can take you home."

I nodded and wiped my face, following the Doctor once again, taking in the dark beauty of this planet, the starless sky, great black mountains, then I saw something shining. "Doctor...what is that?"

"Hm?" He turned to face the way I was and cleared his throat, "That is a city, I can't be sure which species because it depends on the year, but they are either the Tahl, who are very nice, quite friendly, or they could be--" he tailed off, staring at something.

"Doctor? They could be what?" I was starting to worry that I wasn't all that safe and my thoughts were confirmed when I saw a huge silver craft coming toward us. "Run?"

"Run," he nodded and we took off for the TARDIS, but the silver thing sped up too and just before we reached the door an invisable cage trapped us and the ship began to tow both us and the TARDIS back to the city separately.

"Doctor?" I reached out to him, voice shaking just as much as my hands were.

"Hm?" He turned to face me, looking calm as ever while I was falling to pieces, "It's going to be okay, I promise," he smiled that famous Doctor smile and squeezed my shoulder, which didn't help that much cos my pulse sped even more.

"Where are they taking us? Why did they trap us? Who are they? What are they going to do to us?" I was rattling off questions faster than my brain was thinking and I was shaking so much I bet it looked like I was having a seizure.

"Well first of all, you need to calm down," he said, taking hold of my shoulders so I would look him in the eyes once again, his face serious. "They are taking us to that city you pointed out, they trapped us because we were trespassing," he paused.

"But, who are they and what are they planning to do to us?" I could feel my lip quivering with my words, but the Doctor just took a deep breath and let go of me, turning to face the city in the distance.

"They are the Luhre, the not so friendly race I was talking about," he glanced back at me for a moment before going on, "they are taking us to trial where they will decide if we are guilty or not. If not then we go on our way."

"And what if they say we are guilty, what then, Doctor?" I wanted to reach out to him again, but I held back and stood there, terrified and taken prisoner on some alien planet floating in am invisible cage that was taking me to a trial which I knew I stood no chance of winning, with or without the Doctor.

"If the Luhre say we are guilty," his eyes met mine, "we die."

"No!" I fell to my knees, tears streaming down my face, the Doctor knealing beside me with his arms around me while I sobbed. I was going to more than likely die, and no one even knew where I was. They would never know what happened. All I could do was put all of my remaining faith, all the hope I could gather and place it in the Doctor. He would find a way cos he was the Doctor and that's what he did, he helped, so I hoped.

"I won't let anything happen to you," he whispered, still holing me, "I know Jack would never forgive me and I would never forgive myself if you--" he cut himself off and I looked up to make sure he was okay, "We're here."

"Here goes everything," I stood with the Doctor's help and took a deep breath, looking around at the dark city of the Luhre while holding his hand.

It was just that, dark. Everything was hidden by shadows, only a dim light shone through the thick clouds of the planet. I looked up at the buildings, they looked like they were carved from the mountains that surrounded them and they towered up to the black skies. I didn't get to see much else before we were taken into a room, which I assumed was the court, still in the cage. Everything in the room was black, or close to it. The room looked more like an arena than a court. The high ceiling was decorated with swirling symbols and ellaborate pillars helped to support the walls and seats. The viewers in this arena were seated all around us, just like the arenas in Rome. They were all clothed in dark robes that covered their faces, and after a few moments I saw all of their heads turn when another figure came in. I squeezed the Doctor's hand and he looked at me, nodding as if he knew I was going to ask if that was our judge.

"Who dares to come onto the land of the Luhre?" A great, deep voice boomed out from the creature that was our judge. He lowered his hood to reveal his grey face, black markings like those on the wall ran from his forehead to his chin and pure white hair spiked out of his scalp and hung to his still covered shoulders. His eyes were lined in black and his corneas were deep yellow while his iris' were a slightly darker grey than his weird skin. He sat about fifteen feet before us at a slightly more elevated plane, looking down on us.

"I'm the Doctor, and this is Ambyr," The Doctor stood straight, looking our captor in the eyes. "We meant no harm, our coming here was an accident," he went on, still holding my shaking hand.

"And why should I, Lord Lieriet, the ruler of this planet, believe you, a weak trespasser?" The judge glared down at us, which seemed to amuse the masses.

"Because I am ordering you under the rules of the Shadow Proclaimation to let us leave you in peace," the Doctor stood straight, still perfectly calm and confident that we would be safe, "Now let us go."

We got no reply, the entire arena simply burst out in laughter. All I could think to do was to hold onto the Doctor and trust that I was safe with him. He wrapped an arm around me and stared up at Lord Lieriet while tears filled the corners of my eyes.

"Enough!" The judge held up a clawed hand and the room was silent once more, "That was a very funny joke, Doctor, but we will not just let you go. You will have to go through this trial then your fate will be decided," the crowd chuckled at his last comment while the Doctor still stood firm.

"I'm sorry," the Doctor whispered to me, "but I will still get you out of here. You got that?" he looked into my eyes and I managed a weak nod before the deep voice echoed out again.

"I have decided. On the charges of trespassing, the violaters are found guilty." I closed my eyes and squeezed the Doctor tighter, shaking more than ever. "Punishment for this crime will be the maze." The room filled with cheers from the Luhre while the tears streamed down my face.

"We can get out of that, we can beat whatever they put in there and then we are free to go," The Doctor held onto me, still glaring up at the Lord as he got up and left the room and the guards led us to our cell for the night.

"Tomorrow you will be put into the maze with three Klois, beat them and you can go," one the guards told us with a grunt and smirk then they both walked away, leaving us in a small concrete like cell that had no windows, no bed, and the bars were the same kind of force field that had trapped us before.

"Doctor?" I whispered from the dark corner where I was sitting. "What are the things that they are putting with us?"

"Klois," he sighed and sat next to me, putting his arms on his knees, "they're kind of like huge wolf-lions with scorpion tails," he glanced over at me, "not very nice, love to eat every thing, and are outragously strong."

"Then how do we beat them?"

No answer.

"Doctor? How do we beat them?" I asked a little louder this time.

Still no answer.

"Doctor!!" I yelled through sobs.

"I don't know," he whispered back, looking me in the eyes again, "but I will figure it out. i promised I'd get you back home, and I will," he finished, wrapping his arms around me while I cried myself to sleep.

I dreamed of Torchwood. Jack, Gwen, and Ianto, my dear friend Ianto. I dreamed I was home and that my adventure with the Doctor had just been some strange nightmare that I had while they were on their mission and I fell asleep at the Hub. I dreamed that I went on a mission with Jack and Ianto while Gwen watched over the Hub. Weevil hunting, we went Weevil hunting. Caught four of them easily. Jack said he would take me on more missions or let me go on ones with just Yan or Gwen. It was all I ever wanted, I was working in the field and not at a computer, checking files.

"Get up, vermin," a deep voice cut through my dream and I was immediatly brought back to reality. I was back in the cold cell, huddled against the Doctor with his long coat draped over me like a blanket. "Faster, the Klois are restless today, they have not fed in weeks," the guard added while we both stood and I gave him his coat before we were lead to the maze.

"This doesn't look like a maze," I muttered. And it didn't, it was a one story building made of what looked like metal and had no windows and two doors.

Russell T. Davies discusses Torchwood's future in the latest issue of Torchwood Magazine.

Torchwood creator Russell T Davies has the future of the hit Doctor Who spin-off all planned out, he has told the new issue of Torchwood Magazine.

"I could write you scene one of series four right now", says Davies in a revealing interview with Torchwood Magazine. "I know exactly how to pick it up. I've got a shape in mind, and I've got stories. I know where you'd find Gwen and Rhys, and their baby, and Jack, and I know how you'd go forward with a new form of Torchwood."

The news will come as a tonic to fans of the show, which enjoyed runaway success in the ratings when the latest series Children of Earth screened over five nights in July this year. The dramatic finale and the death of much-loved team member Ianto Jones had fans fearing the worst for the future of the show, but Davies' positive comments will re-ignite hopes that Torchwood will once again return to television screens.

Davies is also confident of writing another compelling series of Torchwood, regardless of the format the BBC decides to choose for the show.

"If the BBC asked for another 13 one-part stories, that's what we'd do", Davies goes on to explain to Torchwood Magazine. "I'm ready for anything, but I think it works well as one continuous story. But if the BBC decide they want 13 one-offs, I'll suddenly decide that¹s the best format in the world!"

The prolific writer, widely credited with sparking the recent revival of parent show Doctor Who, goes on to talk candidly about the origins of Torchwood, and why he thinks the timing was all important for the success of the show.

"It's been a very intelligent decision to make hay while the sun shines", he says. "Look at the recession that's sweeping in now. If I'd tried to get Torchwood off the ground now, they would say there's no money for it. So while we had one very successful show, we made a strategic decision to push our advantage. Julie [Gardner, then Head of Drama at BBC Wales] passionately wanted a big, strong Welsh drama department but one show is not a drama department, You¹ve got to have more, so we did it while those doors were open to us."

After Davies' incredible successes on British shores, where he has also penned the acclaimed drama serials Queer as Folk and The Second Coming, the writer is looking forward to his next challenge across the Atlantic.

Davies tells Torchwood Magazine he believes his trade is taken much more seriously in the USA than it is at home in the UK:

"The attitudes towards drama there are very different, and their outlook is more professional in terms of how they approach the job. I heard this brilliant quote from [acclaimed British screenwriter] Frank Cottrell Boyce recently, where he said that British writers are essentially amateur and they want to go home or go to the pub, but in America they can't wait to go in to the office."

John Barrowman collaborates on an original Torchwood comic strip story:

Torchwood Magazine is delighted to announce that a forthcoming issue will feature an original Torchwood comic strip, written by none other than Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman, and his sister, and regular collaborator, Carole E. Barrowman.

The story, featuring in the first 100-page issue of the bi-monthly magazine, sees Captain Jack facing a deadly threat on a remote Scottish island, where people are disappearing one by one... To his horror, Jack starts to suspect he may know who – or perhaps more specifically what – is responsible...

Artwork for the comic strip is provided by Tommy Lee Edwards and Trevor Goring. Tommy Lee Edwards is the acclaimed artist behind several stunning comic projects including Marvel’s current smash hit ‘1985’, plus the acclaimed ‘Bullet Points’, DC’s ‘The Question’, and several more.

Speaking about the project, Torchwood comic editor Martin Eden said:
“I’m so excited to be working on this story – John and Carole are an absolute pleasure to work with. And Tommy Lee Edwards is one of my favourite artists. I’ve seen the thumbnails that Tommy and Trevor have worked on – and, believe me, the readers are in for a treat!”

Carole E. Barrowman explains how the project took off:
“When John and I were working on [John’s autobiography] Anything Goes, we spent a lot of time together on the Torchwood set. In between our storytelling and moments of inspired silliness (maybe one or two), we decided we’d like to work on a project together that involved Captain Jack. The role of myth in a culture’s zeitgeist has always intrigued John and I (it probably intrigues all sci-fi fans) so I when I got back to the US, I sent John a short story I’d written, ‘The Tale of the Selkie.’ Almost immediately he called and said, ‘This should be our first Captain Jack tale.’”

John Barrowman picks up the story:
“Fast forward to ComicCon 2008 in San Diego, where we met the artists Tommy Lee Edwards and Trevor Goring. Tommy and Trevor had drawn a brilliant poster of my face super-imposed over the Face of Boe, which I think is the best piece of Captain Jack art I’ve seen. The four of us hit it off immediately and I asked if they’d ever be interested in working with us on a Captain Jack project. They thought about it for, oh, about 30 seconds, and so ‘Captain Jack and the Selkie’ was born!”

They both agree, “We hope fans love it as much as we do!”

Captain Jack and the Selkie will feature exclusively in Issue #14 of Torchwood Magazine..

From screen to strip! John Barrowman reveals all about his new comic strip creation.

Here, John Barrowman discusses the strip in a special interview conducted by his sister, Carole.

CB: Ready to chat about our Torchwood Magazine comic?
JB: Wait. Shouldn’t we have some sound effects if we’re making this read like a scene from ‘24’?

CB: Do you even know how to write sound effects? You’re the worst speller.
JB: I blame the doctor for that because when I was a kid I’d stay up late on Sunday nights when the classic DOCTOR WHO was on WTTW in Chicago so I’d never study for my Monday morning spelling tests. Add the sound effects later.

CB: Do you remember when we first got the idea to collaborate on a Captain Jack story?
JB: The summer when we were working together on Anything Goes. We were on location for Torchwood in a warehouse in Cardiff. I was filming the “Meat” episode.

CB: Wasn’t that the same shoot where the pigeon pooped on Jack’s shoulder? Now that was hilarious.
JB: That was good luck . . . the shoot was taking forever. Lots of green screen shots. I think I started making up ways that Jack could end the scene and we could all get home. Now that I think about it, we came up with some funny stuff . . . I still think we should do something someday with the idea of Jack and the–

CB: Shush!! . . . Can we tease shamelessly like that?
JB [laughing] I think we just did. Anyway, I remember the endings we made up got more ridiculous the longer we all sat in that cold damp warehouse . . . you and I kept playing on the way home in the car.

CB: I’d forgotten about that . . . do you remember what we called the game?
JB: “What Would Jack Do?” . . . but the actual comic didn’t really take shape until Comic Con last summer in San Diego when we met Tommy Lee Edwards and Trevor Goring.

CB: It was the ‘Face of Boe’ poster that did it.
JB: The poster they created of Jack superimposed on the ‘Face of Boe’ still amazes me when I look at it. I framed it as soon as I got back to London. It’s on the wall in my office and I think it’s the best illustrated characterization of Jack that I’ve come across . . . until our comic is released that is.

CB: And you see a lot of images of Jack.
JB: Oh, yeah . . . so after Tommy, Trevor and I signed a batch of the posters, I asked them if they’d ever be interested in working with us on a graphic novel about Captain Jack.

CB: We had a graphic novel in our head because we had both recently read Neil Gaiman’s MARVEL 1602. You’d bought it to send home with me for Turner [my son], but we each ended up reading it first.
JB: Was that the one where the X-Men face the Spanish Inquisition?

CB: Uh, huh . . . they’re in Elizabethan England. Very clever stuff.
JB: Trevor and Tommy thought a collaboration sounded like a great idea and on the way home from Comic Con I knew that if we didn’t pursue the idea of the four of us working together right away, we’d all get busy with our individual work and it would never happen.

CB: Torchwood Magazine didn’t necessarily have a comic in mind did they?
JB: I don’t think so . . . but given that we’d just hooked up with two of the best artists in the comic world, as far as I was concerned, it made sense to pitch a comic . . . and then later when you and I were brainstorming on a story, I remembered you’d written something before about the myth of the selkie, and I thought it’d be a perfect plot to adapt for what, in my head, I was already calling a “Captain Jack Tale.”

CB: Except that my story had nothing to do with Torchwood or Captain Jack.
JB: Not then it didn’t but we worked that out between us . . . I’d always wanted to do something that put Jack in Scotland and your original story was set on an island off the Orkneys. Plus we’d already agreed to tell a story that showed a side of Jack and a part of his history that hadn’t been explored too much in other media . . . I wanted to give fans something original about Jack.

CB: What side of Jack do you think our comic foregrounds?
JB: I think we see Jack’s compassion . . . maybe his guilt. Plus his wicked skills with a harpoon!

CB: You’ve always been a comic fan, haven’t you?
JB: Oh, yeah. Love Spiderman, Batman, and definitely Captain America. . . I think it has something to do with when we immigrated to the States in the late 70s and I was trying hard to be an American kid. Couldn’t get enough of comics and Captain America . . . but I also love Superman–all the Justice League heroes for that matter.

CB: Do you remember the first mint condition comic you ever bought me when you could afford one?
SOUNDS OF SILENCE
CB: You haven’t got a clue, have you?
JB: A TIN TIN comic . . . plus a bunch of first edition ‘Noddy’ books.

CB: Nice save . . . so what do you think of ‘Captain Jack and The Selkie’ now that you’ve seen the finished product?
JB: I’m astonished. It’s brilliant work. The panels with the selkie are completely breathtaking . . . and Jack looks so damn good.

CB: When Tommy and Trevor sent the first colored panels, I just stared at them in stunned admiration.
JB: Tommy Lee, Trevor, John Workman on the lettering, Martin Eden at Torchwood Magazine, everyone worked really hard, but Tommy Lee especially, given the tight deadlines and budget constraints.

CB: Are you game for another one?
JB: !bOng! !bOng! !bOng!

Daleks In Manhattan
